Annabelle Hydrangea

Annabelle hydrangeas are attractive shrubs that produce clusters of white flowers during spring and summer. They grow well in a wide range of climates. Annabelle hydrangea is a specific variety of hydrangea that grows flowers on new wood each year. They grow well as hedges and tolerate very heavy pruning. We planted ours in full sun and it seems to do fine, although planting in full sun means it would be best to plant in fall when the temperature begins to fall and humidity is lower. Annabelle Hydrangeas grow in clumps 3 to 5 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide. Hardy in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 3 through 9, this deciduous shrub doesn't require frost protection. It prefers partial-shade sites but also grows in full-sun locations, though it needs careful watering. The remaining warms days and through the winter months the Annabelle will develop a good root system. Fertilize with a slow release fertilizer during its first spring season for an added boost. We use 14-14-14 slow release fertilizer each year which provides great results.

Planting Instructions - Dig your planting hole twice the diameter of the root ball. You should dig the hole so that once planted it will be at the same level in the ground as it was in its container. Before you place it into its hole, you should loosen the soil around the outside of the root ball. This will help the roots to spread more easily once it is planted. Place your shrub into the hole. Back-fill the hole with soil and pack it down firmly. Water well to help get rid of air pockets in the soil. Add a layer of mulch to your newly planted shrub. This will help the soil to conserve moisture.
